WAYNE G. ROEMHILDT, age 85, of Waseca, Minnesota passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Timberdale Trace Memory Care in Owatonna, Minnesota.
Wayne was born to Ted and Clara Roemhildt in Waseca on July 11, 1937. He attended schools in St. Peter and graduated from Minnesota State College - Mankato, receiving a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. He was a teacher, wrestling/ football coach, drivers training instructor and mentor too many students at Le Sueur High School.
Our Dad died on Thanksgiving evening. He had been in a memory care facility for just shy of a year and suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. The nurses all loved him and told stories of eating milk and cookies with him in the middle of the night. Up until last week he seemed happy and danced down the halls most of the time even though he wasn’t aware of where he was and who others were. He used to follow us to the door when we would visit and the nurses had to bribe him back to his room with peanut M&M’s. He loved sweets.
We are so grateful to have spent his last days holding his hand, putting lotion on his feet and letting him know that he didn’t have to be afraid to leave us. He touched many lives and loved all of his students and athletes. He loved teaching and being a Dad and Grandpa. We will miss him greatly.
He is survived by wife, Lois Roemhildt; children, Kandi Roemhildt, Chad (Lori) Roemhildt, Kelly (Jack)Wilcox, and Keather Roemhildt; grandchildren; Dan Griep, Sarah Griep, Nik Roemhildt, Sam Roemhildt, Henry Wilcox, Oliver Wilcox, Emmett Wilcox; sister, Barb Melby; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held in the Spring of 2023. Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association. alzheimers.com Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
