Terrance "Terry" Patrick Hammel

Terrance Patrick Hammel, age 72, of Mankato, died on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Born on September 23, 1953, in Mankato, he was the son of James Emmett and Dolores (Bruss) Hammel. Terry grew up in Janesville where he attended Janesville High School finished his schooling in Beach, North Dakota. Following his education, Terry enlisted into the United States Marines where he honorable served from 1972 – 1974. Throughout his life, Terry worked various jobs as a laborer as well as a truck driver. He spent the last 21 years in Mankato at the Veteran townhomes where he made lifelong friendships and was known to help his fellow veterans. Terry maintained connections with his high school classmates in North Dakota and did so up until the time of his passing. He was a kindhearted soul who enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the Minnesota Vikings.

Terry is survived by his brother, Harold Hammel of Elberta, Alabama; nephews: Ken (Kim) Furst, and Joe Furst; other relatives and friends, including his good buddy, Beau, and his special girl, Zoe.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathy (Victor) Furst.

Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 PM on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the Janesville Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral Homes. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM on Monday, June 15, 2026, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville with Fr. Robert Schneider as Celebrant. Interment will be at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery in Janesville with military honors provided by the Janesville and Waseca American Legions.
