Steven John Peterson

STEVEN JOHN PETERSON, age 66 of Owatonna, formerly of Waseca, died on the evening of Saturday, December 27, 2025 at the Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna.

Steve was born in Waseca on December 16, 1959, to parents Kenneth Stanley and Donna Mae (Hammann) Peterson. He graduated Waseca High School with the class of 1978 before continuing his vo-tech education in Austin, MN, graduating in 1980. Over the years Steve worked at Stucky’s Drug Store in Waseca, Brown Printing in Waseca, and finally at Winegar’s, Inc. in Waseca. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca, and he enjoyed going to flea markets, playing at casinos – especially in Deadwood, SD, welding yard art, photography, and giving hugs to those he loved. He will be dearly missed.

Steve is survived by two sisters, Jan (Mark) Wolff of Janesville and Rebecca (Dave) Kamm of Decorah, IA; nieces Marissa (Keith) Tourville, Michelle Riegert, Bailey (Todd) Tacheny, Kim (Ryan) Patterson, Lisa Kamm; nephew Karl Kamm; Brother-in-law Mike (Brenda) Riegert; and friends Doug and Lynn Steck. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; a brother, Mark Peterson, sister, Jane Riegert; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:45 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca. A closing prayer service will begin at 6:45 p.m. after which friends and family are invited to join Steven’s family at Barden’s Bar in Waseca to finish the evening. All who attend are encouraged to wear clothing that would have made Steven smile, including brewery or beer shirts or funky socks. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Croix Hospice of Owatonna or the Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna.
