Shirley H. Studnicka

SHIRLEY HELEN STUDNICKA, age 83 of Waseca, died on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Bridgewater Assisted Living in Janesville.

Born in Waseca on June 14, 1936, Shirley was the daughter of Helmer and Mary (Loken) Schumacher.  She attended school in New Richland before graduating from Waseca High School.  Shirley met her future husband, Marvin Studnicka, while roller skating when he accidentally tripped her, resulting in a broken arm.  They went on to date and were married on her twentieth birthday, June 14, 1956 at Trinity Church in New Richland.  Marvin went straight into his military service a short 3 months after their marriage and was gone for two and a half years.  Shirley worked as a phone operator and waitress at the Pheasant Café in Waseca.  She later worked 23 years at Herters in Waseca, and then Erickson Grocery for 23 years.  Her most recent career was driving drug deliveries for Thrifty White Pharmacy.  Her family loved to joke that Shirley was a "drug runner".  She was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca and was also a member of the Waseca American Legion Auxiliary.

Shirley loved traveling, camping, fishing, and playing cards with Marv.  They also enjoyed dancing and they seemed to somehow float across the dance floor.  She was a fantastic baker that healed everyone around her with food.  She was always baking for family and friends.  Her children dont know if she ever went anywhere without bringing along something she baked.  Doing so made her happy and also made the recipient very happy.  She loved being with her grandkids and great-grandkids.  She and Marv were always surrounded by children.  After her husband passed in 2005 Shirley was very lonely, as they had done everything together.  To help remedy this problem she got a puppy.  Jojo was her second mate, and always together they created a very strong bond.  A lovely woman who will be remembered fondly, her family is so grateful to have so many memories… "gone from us, but not forgotten".

Shirley is survived by three children, Theresa (Bernie) Flintrop of Faribault, Curtis (Marnie) Studnicka of Otisco, and Kathy (Greg) Johnson of Blooming Prairie; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three siblings, Lloyd (Gloria) Schumacher of Staples, Marlow (Carol) Schumacher of Waseca, and Paul (Nancy) Schumacher of Waseca; and two siblings-in-law, Mary Lou Studnicka of Waseca, and Roger and Joyce Studnicka of Faribault.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three siblings, Michael Schumacher, Richard Schumacher, and Evelyn Nemitz.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the 3rd Street Chapel of Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services.  Visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
