Shawn Larry Meyer

SHAWN LARRY MEYER, age 49 of Waseca, died at his home on Monday, April 15, 2024.

Shawn was born in Owatonna on August 25, 1974, to parents Larry and Carol (Youngberg) Meyer.  He attended school in Waseca and graduated with the Bluejay class of 1993.  As a young man Shawn enjoyed playing hockey, bowling, demolition derby, ice and summer fishing, and goose hunting.  More recently, he liked watching NASCAR and other sports, playing darts, and playing pull-tabs.  He was a very proud father and grandfather and enjoyed watching his son and daughters in their sports and activities.  He often attended Grace Lutheran Church with his children and partner of nearly twenty years, Angie Zilm.  He was known to be one of the best heavy equipment operators in the area, specializing in the backhoe.  His many co-workers, friends, customers, and acquaintances he made through IUOE Local 49 will sorely miss him.

Shawn is survived by his friend and former partner, Angie Zilm of Waseca; his son Cade Meyer of Waseca; daughters Kiley (Andrew Hage) Zilm of Mankato and Arianna (Marcus Priebe) Zilm of Waseca, one granddaughter, Lainey Hage; his mother Carol Meyer and her friend Duane Krienke of Waseca; his father Larry Meyer and his wife, Judy Meyer of Waseca; his grandmother, Nina Youngberg of Janesville; and three sisters, Stacie (Nate) Brinkman of Waseca, Shannon (Scott) Hedberg of Waseca, and Shelby Meyer and her fiancé Nate Hunt of Waseca.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather and both of his paternal grandparents.

Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the State Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
