Scott William Hammett

SCOTT WILLIAM HAMMETT, age 65, of Madison Lake, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Whispering Creek in Janesville.

Born on March 11, 1960, in Mankato, Scott was the son of David and Marilyn (Frederick) Hammett. He grew up in Madison Lake, where he attended All Saints Catholic School. At the age of nine, his family moved to Janesville, where he attended Janesville Public School and graduated with the Class of 1978. In high school, Scott played basketball and baseball, with baseball being his true passion.

Scott continued his education at South Central College, where he studied auto mechanics. On May 3, 1986, he was united in marriage to Lisa Schmahl at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato.

During high school, Scott worked at G&S Gas Station in Janesville and Cochran’s in Waseca. He later worked for Snell Motors and All American towing in Mankato before beginning a 25-year career with Crysteel Manufacturing in Lake Crystal. Scott also owned and operated The Wilderness Bar and Grill for five years and, most recently, owned and managed Pleasant Hill Manor in Madison Lake.

Scott enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, taking in the view of the lake from his porch, going on rides in his Camaro, working out, and practicing Taekwondo, where he earned his brown belt. He was a proud member of Ducks Unlimited and a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, who valued family traditions. Scott’s strong personality inspired his children to always do their best. He enjoyed coaching their baseball and softball teams and was their biggest supporter in all their activities. He also had a special place in his heart for his dogs, whom he loved to spoil. He will be dearly missed.

Scott is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Lisa; children: Ashley Hammett, Travis (Marci Rossow) Hammett, Kourtney (Alex Kjolstad) Hammett, Brett Hammett, and Kyle Hammett all of Madison Lake; his beloved companions: Benelli and Moose and grand dogs: Nova, Elby, and Maggie. He is also survived by his brothers: Jim (Julie) Hammett of Janesville, and Brian (Stacy) Hammett of St. Peter; sisters-in-law: Edith Jurgens of Windom and Debra Schmahl of Cleveland; aunt, Betty Lou (Gary) Ewert of Janesville; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Debbie (Chuck) Brandmire and Vickie Schnepf; brother, Tom Jurgens of Windom; brothers-in-law: Steven (Deb) Schmahl, and Craig Schmahl and his many loving dogs.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Janesville Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville.
