Richard H. Olsen

RICHARD H. OLSEN, age 95 of Waseca, died Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at his daughters’ home.

He was born on December 4, 1929, in Austin, Minnesota. He was the son of Bernard H. and Helen (Dexter) Olsen. He graduated from Austin High School with the class of 1948. Following High School, he worked for Hormel Foods in Austin, a job he held for 37 years, from 1948-1985. During those years, he served in the US Air Force from 1951-1954 during the Korean War. On January 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Helen G. Vohwinkel in Elmont, New York. Together they would move back to Austin and raise their five children. He enjoyed biking, taking pictures, home and family movies, camping (a member of Spamtown Campers), watching Minnesota Twins games, spending winters with Helen in McAllen, Texas and spending time with his family. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.

He is survived by his children, Christine (Mark) Rockers of Winnebago, Debra Stock of Austin, Steve (Shirley) Olsen of Princeton, Missouri, Lisa (David) Johnson of Waseca; daughter-in-law, Ofelia Olsen of Maryland; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Helen Olsen, stepmother, Amy Olsen, wife, Helen Olsen, son James Olsen, sisters, Betty Glass and Nancy Olsen, granddaughter, Regina Rockers, brother-in-law, Victor Vohwinkel and son-in-law, Ron Stock.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held, Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Waterville. In Lieu of Flowers, please make contributions to St. Croix Valley Health Care Foundation or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca.
