Richard "Dick" Eugene Cummins

June 21, 0943 — December 27, 2025

Janesville, Minnesota

Richard “Dick” Eugene Cummins, age 82, of Janesville, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

Dick was born on June 2, 1943, in Smiths Mill, the son of Stanley and Goldie (Hammett) Cummins. He began his education in Smiths Mill before attending Pemberton Elementary School, then Trinity Lutheran School in Janesville through the eighth grade, and later Janesville High School.

On May 31, 1961, at the age of 17, Dick enlisted in the United States Army. He served proudly as a tank driver and was stationed in Germany until his honorable discharge on June 9, 1964. On December 23, 1961, Dick was united in marriage to Helen Mohs. Together they shared five children and were later divorced

Dick began his working years at the rendering plant before starting a 32‑year career with Birds Eye in Waseca, where he worked as a boiler operator. He also served his community as a volunteer fireman in Waseca. For more than 50 years, he was a dedicated member of the Waseca American Legion Post #228.

If anyone knew how to have fun, it was Dick. He had a great sense of humor—always quick with a joke and just the right amount of sarcasm. He loved fishing, and any chance he had, he would be out on the lake. Some of his favorite memories were made on fishing trips with his buddies to Canada.

Dick is survived by his children: Angel Cummins of Janesville, Annie (Jeff) Kalbow of Waseca, Rich (Tracy) Cummins of La Crosse, WI, AnnMarie Mohs of Waseca, and Heidi Cummins of Waseca; 12 grandchildren; 19 great‑grandchildren; siblings: Gary (Connie) Cummins of Janesville, Becky Fuller of Long Beach, CA, and Ron (Cheeny) Cummins of Janesville; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Christopher Cummins; and his siblings: Bill Cummins, Jim Cummins, Judy (Holland) Holtz, and Bruce Cummins.

A Celebration of Richard’s life will announced on a later date.
