RICHARD ALLEN POSSEHL, age 70 of Waseca, died on the evening of Monday, June 6, 2022 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
Born in Waseca on June 30, 1951, Richard was born to Walter and Gloria (Knudson) Possehl. He attended Waseca schools before beginning to work. Over the years he was employed with Johnny Oliver tiling fields, at Waseca’s Bird’s Eye plant, at Associated Lumber Mart, with Johnson Components, and most recently at Itron in Waseca. In the early 1970’s he was married to Joyce Gottschalk in Janesville, and they later divorced. In 1993 Richard was married to Valerie (Smith) in Waseca. Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing, curating his wide variety of collections, listening to country western music and bagpipe music, and caring for his cats (one inside and many others outside). He loved having coffee at Burger King on Mondays, shopping Walmart every day, and was known to those who loved him for is “meow”. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca and was always in the same spot in the back pew each Sunday.
Richard is survived by his wife Valerie of Waseca; daughters, Melissa (Tom) Haack and Kimberly (Dylan) DeMarce; step-son, Jason (Brooke) Weimer; brothers, Marty (Colleen) Possehl and Bruce Possehl; sisters, Paulette (Paul) Born and Diane (Jerry) Roeker; sister-in-law, Janet Possehl; brother-in-law, Rich Papinski; grandchildren, Dayla (Allen) Thompson, Chelsie (Austin) Bell, Chase (Cibrianna) Haack, Payten (Jordan) Haack, Alec (Naomi) Weimer, Devin (Amy) Weimer; great-grandchildren Baylor, Raelynn, Egann, Grayson, Ezra, Jack, Quinn, and Keoni; and many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his first wife; one brother, Chuck Possehl; and one sister, Barb Papinski.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca, with Rev. John Omans officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca is handling the arrangements.
