Janesville, Minnesota

NONA LEE COONROD, age 86, of Janesville passed away on April 4, 2026 at Whispering Creek in Janesville.

Born on August 3, 1939, in Jackson, Minnesota, Nona was the daughter of Albert and Elsie Soucek. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1958. On January 6, 1962, she was united in marriage to Clifford Coonrod at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Jackson, and together they shared many years of love and cherished memories.

Nona had a strong work ethic and a vibrant personality. She worked as a dental assistant in Jackson and later dedicated 40 years to Avon. She also spent several years working at E.F. Johnson. In the late 1960s, she moved to Janesville, where she became known for her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, especially through her love of crafts and decorating.

Nona was a woman of many talents and passions. She was an artist at heart—enjoying sewing, knitting, cooking, baking, and making cards for others. She loved canning, gardening, and spending time outdoors, including snowmobiling with Cliff. She also cherished traveling and playing cards with friends.

Above all, Nona loved her family. She was kind, patient, and known for her humor and quick one-liners. She had a competitive and spirited side, especially when playing games like Crazy 8s. She deeply valued time spent with her children and grandchildren and loved to socialize with special friends and relatives in the community.

She is survived by her son, Bob (Angie) Coonrod of Mankato and their children, Nakita (Bryce) Kometani, Cobra Coonrod, Bre Altenburg (Jake Sik); daughter-in-law, Judy Salz of Minneapolis and her children, William Coonrod, Kristen Coonrod (Shane Hennessey); sisters, Peggy Rossow of California, Deborah (Ron) Reker of Elysian, Mary (Steve) Bertrand of Little Canada; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cliff; sons, John Coonrod and Michael Coonrod; sister, Betty Anderson; and other loved family members.

Nona will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, humor, and the deep love she had for her family and friends.
