EDNA SOPHIE MITTELSTEADT , age 89 of rural Janesville died on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at her home.

Born on August 6, 1923 in Regent, North Dakota, she was the daughter of Frank and Sophie (Gehner) Monke.  Edna grew up on the plains of North Dakota on a farm homesteaded by her father, Frank.  The family moved to a farm near Waterville in 1936 and later to a farm in Waseca County.  She attended rural schools in North Dakota and Minnesota before graduating from Waterville High School in 1942 and secretarial school in Mankato.  After working as a legal secretary, Edna married Gordon Mittelsteadt on September 30, 1951 in Waterville.  They lived and farmed in Iosco Township where they raised 3 children.  Edna worked with her husband and son farming for over 60 years.  She enjoyed crocheting and being outdoors.  Edna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville and the Ladies Aid.

She is survived by three children, Gary Mittelsteadt of Janesville, Wayne Mittelsteadt of Faribault and Jane Mittelsteadt of Janesville; two grandchildren, Will (Heidi) Mittelsteadt of Cedar Rapids, IA and Jennifer Mittelsteadt of New York City, NY; two great grandchildren, Jonathan and Ellamae Mittelsteadt.  She is also survived by one sister, Norma Pommeranz of Faribault; one brother, Leonard (Thelma) Monke of Battle Lake; three sisters-in-law, Luella Monke, Jyette Monke and Nadine Scheffert; one brother-in-law, Harvey Mittelsteadt; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Wilbert, Amos, Earl, Herb, and Art Monke; sisters-in-law, Dona Monke and Naomi Mittelsteadt; and brothers-in-law, Leonard Pommeranz and Ivan Scheffert.

Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Thursday, June 6, 2013 from 4-8 PM and continue on Friday, one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville.  Burial will follow at St. Johns Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Iosco Township.
