Michael Peter Fischer

Michael Peter Fischer, age 53, of Janesville, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 31, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, surrounded by the love of his family, following an arduous and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born in Mankato, Minnesota, Michael was the son of Peter and Audrey (Davis) Fischer. As the youngest of four children, he grew up with three older sisters. Being the only boy in the family meant Mike was often included in their world of dress-up, make-believe, and sisterly adventures, creating memories that would bring smiles for years to come. Mike spent his early childhood on the family farm south of Janesville before the Fischer family moved into town. He attended Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Schools.

As a young man, Mike moved to Wahpeton, North Dakota, where he held a variety of jobs while discovering his path in life. It was there that he entered the HVAC trade and went on to earn his HVAC Certification. Mike returned to the Janesville area, where he continued his career in HVAC. After working for several local companies, he found his perfect fit at Connors Plumbing & Heating for the past 15 years, where he took great pride in his work and earned the respect of both his coworkers and customers through his dedication, reliability, and honesty.

Mike was blessed with the gift of fatherhood through his daughter, Isabelle. He also welcomed TJ into his life, and as TJ shared, Mike was his dad the instant he walked through the door.

Mike met Jamie through his sister, Rhonda, and was persistent until Jamie agreed to a first date—a Vikings game and a beer at The Circle in Mankato. From that day on, they knew they had found something special. They were married in 2013 at Central Gardens in Clear Lake, Iowa, and continued to make Janesville their home, building a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories.

Mike often jokingly referred to himself as a “Dumb Tinner,” although those who knew him knew that was far from the truth. Mike was the kind of person who would lend a hand without hesitation and was happiest when he was busy working with his hands. He was known for having only one speed, and it certainly wasn’t slow. Whether he was fixing a small engine, solving a problem, or dreaming up his next project, Mike had a natural ability to figure things out and always seemed to have another idea waiting to be built.

Mike loved the outdoors, from hunting and camping to ice fishing trips “up north” with his buddies. He took great pride in his lawn, giving it every bit of care and attention it needed to keep it looking perfectly groomed. Mike was also a master at smoking meat and enjoyed preparing meals to share with others. Saturdays were reserved for family and friends gathering in the garage, but only after Mike had checked everything off his to-do list first.

Mike had a way of making people feel comfortable. He didn’t need the spotlight and was never one to make a fuss about himself, but his quick wit, honest nature, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on those lucky enough to know him. Mike had the kind of personality where people will smile when they remember him, even while missing him deeply.

Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Jamie; children, TJ (Natalie) Brown and Isabelle (Connor Coutier) Fischer; grandchildren, Jacie, Olivia, and William; mother, Audrey Fischer; sister, Rhonda Karels; mother-in-law, Janet Dietel; sister-in-law Jen (Allen) Eden; brothers-in-law, Wade Borgardts and Mike Knutson; along with several nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Peter; sisters, Brenda Borgardts and Pam Knutson; and father-in-law, Jim Yeakel.

A Celebration on Mike’s Life will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Janesville Chapel of the Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral Home in Janesville, MN.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Mike’s family.

As Mike would want it, there is no need to dress up. Please come in your comfortable, casual attire as we celebrate his life and memories he shared with us.
