Melvin "Butch" Metzler

MELVIN “BUTCH” WILLIAM METZLER, age 82, of Waseca passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025 at the Owatonna Hospital.

Born on March 10, 1943, in Waseca, Butch was the son of Martin “Mike” and Sybil (Herrley) Metzler. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waldorf. He graduated from Waseca Central High School before moving to Denver, Colorado, where he established and operated a successful roofing business for 45 years. A dedicated and hardworking man, Butch took pride in his craftsmanship and built a lasting legacy through his work. In 2018, Butch returned to his hometown of Waseca.

In his younger years, Butch enjoyed fishing, hunting and riding snowmobile. He loved spending time outdoors, especially tending to his yard and maintaining his home with meticulous care. He found joy in making sure everything was just right—a reflection of his personality and values.

Butch is survived by his sisters, Karen (Jerry) Miester of Waseca, and Sandy (Gene) Matz of Waseca; sister-in-law, Judy Metzler of Mankato; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Marvin Metzler and Barbara (Caroll) Schlueter.

Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the State Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service with Fr. Gregory Leif officiating. Interment will be in Woodville Cemetery in Waseca with military honors provided by the Waseca American Legion and VFW. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and continue until the time of the service at the funeral chapel on Tuesday.

Butch’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Owatonna Hospital for the care he received.
