We are sad to announce the passing of Marcia Rocek, age 58, of Mankato. She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones in the early morning hours of April 20, 2024, after fighting a courageous battle with ALS.
Marcia was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, enlisting right out of high school serving 7 years, 7 months, and 28 days in service to her country. She began her nursing career in 2003, spending 16 dedicated years as a charge nurse at the School Sisters of Notre Dame until their closing. She continued her passion in service to others at the Lyle C. Pearson Veteran’s Affairs Clinic in Mankato until she passed.
Marcia was an avid cyclist, runner, and philanthropist for much of her life. Her passions included fundraising and awareness for multiple sclerosis by participating for many years in the MS 150 bike ride. She also dedicated her time to running 5 & 10K races in honor of many different organizations and causes in the local area, as well as traveling to New Orleans in support of Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. She enjoyed traveling, reading, crocheting, knitting, and attending concerts as often as possible.
She is survived by her loving partner of 23 years, Craig Baer; daughter, Lysette (Eric) Bergery of Willow Spring, NC; and son, Jorel (Hillary) Challenger of Laconia, New Hampshire; and three beautiful grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life held in her honor at a later date. Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service is handling arrangements.
