LaVerne James Dahl

LAVERNE "VERN" JAMES DAHL, age 94, of Waseca passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Waseca.

Vern was born on April 1, 1932, in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, to Tilman and Freida (Simon) Dahl. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.

On October 3, 1953, Vern married Eulalia "Lallie" Malecha at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waseca. Together they shared many years of marriage, family, and adventure.

Vern began his career with North Central Airlines before entering the printing industry. In 1978, he became owner of Quality Print in Waseca, operating the business until his retirement. A dedicated member of the community, Vern was active in the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, VFW, and local honor guards. He especially enjoyed marching in parades and supporting fellow veterans.

Flying was one of Vern's greatest passions. He rebuilt his own airplane, owned several aircraft throughout his life, and loved taking family and friends into the skies. He also enjoyed restoring a vintage boat and spending time on the water.

After retirement, Vern and Lallie enjoyed traveling in their motor home, operating their food wagon known for its hot roast beef sandwiches, and remaining active in the American Legion.

Above all, Vern loved his family and friends. "Grandpa Vern" held a special place in the hearts of those who knew him and will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and love of life.

Vern is survived by his daughter, Jackie Dickie (Jeff); his son, Mitchell Dahl (Sharon); six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lallie; his parents, Tilman and Freida Dahl; brothers, Lloyd, Allen, and Elwood Dahl; and sister, Beverly.

His legacy of service, friendship, and devotion to family will be cherished and remembered always.

Memorial service for Vern will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
