JOHN WESLEY LANGFORD, age 78 of Waseca, MN, died at his home surrounded by the love of his family on October 28, 2025.
John was born in Fairmont, MN, on April 10, 1947, the fifth of six children to parents Clarence Levi and Mae Viola (Bishop) Langford. John was raised in rural Truman where his strong work ethic was developed and his love of working on and fixing all types of farm machinery and mechanical equipment was forged. After John graduated from Truman High School, he moved to Owatonna, MN, where he attended Pillsbury College and worked at OMC. He met Eileen Lindsay at church in Waseca and they married on May 31, 1969. The young couple lived in Owatonna during the births of their first two children then planted their roots in Waseca where they welcomed their youngest two children to their family. John worked at E.F. Johnson from 1972 to 2000 starting as a Journeyman and later became a licensed Master Electrician. John started John Langford Electric in 2000 after the E.F. Johnson plant shut down. John’s small business continued for 25 years as he loved to help people and companies in the community. To further support his family as a young father, John worked at Hildebrandt Refrigeration and Charlie’s Hardware. He also mowed lawns, tilled gardens and plowed snow along with various other small jobs he would enjoy doing throughout the surrounding communities. John took his family on camping trips and road trips to Roanoke, Virginia, and to Vista, California. The family also took multiple trips to Morton, IL, to visit friends. On John and Eileen's 40th wedding anniversary, the family met together and celebrated at Yellowstone National Park. John loved cheering on the many sports and music activities of his children and grandchildren over the years in Waseca, Janesville, and Chaska. In April 2013, John suffered a heart attack and doctors performed a quadruple bypass surgery. True to John’s character, he resumed work on a limited basis and lived for twelve amazing years during which he celebrated 50 years of marriage and became a great grandfather. John had a servant's heart and ministered to the youth at Christ Community Church and the FCA sports camp in Waseca. John will always be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love for people, and most of all his love for his family.
John is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-six years, Eileen Langford of Waseca; three children, Dwight (Tracy) Langford of Janesville, Kevin (Katrina) Langford of Chaska, and Christine Langford of Lee’s Summit, MO; three siblings, Dennis Langford of Roanoke, VA, Ellen Herme of Mankato, and Crystal (Jeff) Blickem of North Mankato; eight grandchildren, Breanna, Sydney, Monte (Joy), Tristen (Brooke), Mitchell (Brittany), Matthew, Michael, and Kayle Langford; and two great-grandchildren with a third on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Mae Langford, two siblings, Geri Thomas and Roger Langford; and one infant son, Daniel Dwight Langford.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Christ Community Church in Waseca, and will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, John’s family asks that donors direct their memorial contributions to St. Croix Hospice. The love and care that St. Croix provided to John and his family was invaluable, and the Langford family is very grateful to their entire staff.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, Christ Community Church in Waseca with Rev. Rick Wulf officiating. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
