Jean Marie Skarin

Jean Marie Skarin passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, at Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna, MN.

Born on July 16, 1954, in Wells, MN she was the daughter of Raymond and Eileen (Christensen) Terhurne. She was raised in the Easton area, where she attended Catholic grade school and later graduated from Wells High School. Following graduation, she moved to Waseca, where she began working at Brown Printing. She later concluded her career at Itron.

She married Donald Skarin, and together they built a life in Waseca, where they raised their daughter, Katie. Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially during the holidays. She loved preparing large meals for everyone to gather around and enjoy together. Though her travels were few, they left lasting memories. She often looked back with fondness on a trip to the Wisconsin Dells with her daughter and a memorable family vacation to Hawaii. Jean loved to shop, and Kmart and Shopko were among her favorite destinations. She especially enjoyed shopping with her daughter, Katie. Jean also liked attending craft shows, where she enjoyed browsing the many unique items on display and often searched for chicken-themed décor to add to her home.

Jean was blessed with a wonderful group of friends. She especially enjoyed their monthly lunch gatherings, where laughter, friendship, and conversation were always plentiful. Jean loved children and was always willing to help them. She had a caring nature and often took children under her wing, making them feel welcomed, supported, and loved. Jean will be remembered for her upbeat personality, her playful, youthful spirit, and her deep love of being surrounded by family and friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Donnie; daughter, Katie (CJ Johnson) Skarin; grandchildren, Tashaun Johnson, Khadija Johnson, JC Johnson, Mykiah Johnson, Charlyze Johnson, and Cyrus Johnson; siblings, Dave (Darlene) Terhurne, Judy Hicks, Carol Stauffer, Bob Terhurne, and Mary (Bill) Klein; loved as family, Kinleigh Olson; along with many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandchild, Kailyn Quillen; sister, Margie Terhurne; brother, Richard Turhurne; sisters-in-law, Linda Terhurne and Susie Drake; brothers -in-law, Darryl Hicks and John Stauffer; and her beloved cat, Buffy.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the State Street Chapel of the Dennis Steffel Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca, MN. Jean’s family will greet guests at a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Woodville Cemetery at a later date.
