James Arvid Peterson

James Arvid Peterson, age 84, of Waldorf, MN passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on March 22, 2026

Born on September 23, 1941, in Waseca, MN he was the son of Arvid and Pearl (Sutlief) Peterson. Jim grew up in rural Waseca, attended a country school, and later graduated from Waseca High School. After graduating from high school, Jim worked throughout his career at B&S Grain, Winegar Inc, and Borneke Construction.

On November 27, 1963, he married Bernadine Borglum at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Easton. Jim and Bernadine moved to Waldorf, where they settled down and raised their four children. Jim proudly served on the Waldorf Fire Department for 40 plus years. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and on the cemetery board for many years. He took pride in caring for and maintaining the church and cemetery.

In retirement, Jim enjoyed traveling, gardening and helping on the farm.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Bernadine; children: David (Amy) Peterson, Marijo (Paul) Beckstrand, and Glee (Larry) Merritt; grandchildren: Terri Peterson, Tyrel (Mandy Holden) Peterson, Rae (Matt) Trcka, Brianna (Kevin) Braith, Haylee (Brian) Stockowitz, Amy (Josh) Brown, Jamie Beckstrand, Trevor (Tara) Beckstrand, Travis Beckstrand, Alicia (Steph) Root, Alex (Haley) Merritt, Avery, Aaron, and Aiden Merritt; 19 great-grandchildren, siblings, Bruce (Connie) Peterson, Jan Bartz, and Kathy Karsten; sister-in-law, Martha Phillips; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family, and his puppy, Andy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bill Peterson; and brother, Jerry Peterson.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Waldorf, MN. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at St Joseph Catholic Church in Waldorf, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St Joseph’s Community Cemetery in Waldorf, MN.
