Irene Gallagher Nicolin

IRENE GALLAGHER NICOLIN, age 95, of Waseca passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Lakeshore Rehabilitation Center in Waseca.

Rene was born on October 16, 1927 to George and Mary (Marso) Gallagher in Waseca, MN. She graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1944, attended the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN, returning to Waseca to work at Rutledge’s Insurance Company until her marriage to Robert Nicolin on September 1, 1948 at Sacred Heart Church in Waseca. From 1972 – 1987 she work as a secretary/bookkeeper in the parish office at Sacred Heart Church until her retirement in 1987.

She is survived by three daughters, Gail (Bob) Streitz of Shoreview, Nancy (Jim) Lang of St. Paul, Jan (Mark) Applen of Champlin; one son, Jay (Nancy) Nicolin of Waseca; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and sister, Helen Fowler of Waseca. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004; one grandson, Eric Applen in 2002; her mother and father; sister, Marge Baumgartner; and brothers, Raymond Gallagher and Robert (Odetta) Gallagher. 

Per Rene’s wishes, a private family memorial service was held with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
