Humble & Kind – Faithful & Giving … Howard Nels Lundquist peacefully went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 as the snow calmly fell outside his window. He was 89 years old.
Visitation will be from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the JANESVILLE CHAPEL of Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services. Private family services will be held. Interment with military honors will be held in the Janesville Cemetery.
Howard was born on Friday, February 13, 1931, to Nels and Lillian (Trahms) Lundquist. He was baptized in 1931, at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato and confirmed in his faith there in 1945. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1949.
Sgt. Howard Lundquist served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. Ten months of his duty was spent fighting in the Korean War. Upon completion of his service, he was awarded the United National Service Medal (given to military service members who participated in the defense of South Korea), plus two Bronze Service Stars (representing heroic or meritorious service).
On July 3, 1954, Howard was united in marriage to Deloris (Lorrie) Yess. Together they shared two daughters, Beth and Jana. He enjoyed his life-long work as a farmer, alongside his father, two brothers and his son-in-law. Lundquist Bros., Inc. benefitted from an organized and efficient bookkeeper in Howard also.
In their retirement years, Howard and Lorrie enjoyed traveling across the country, especially out West to visit family and winters on South Padre Island, Texas. They were avid sports fans, enjoying many MN Gopher football games and walking across the street to attend the local basketball games. Above all, they treasured time spent with family and friends. Howard was a long time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Waseca, MN and at present was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Janesville, MN.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Lorrie; his parents, Nels and Lillian; his brother, Roderick (Marge) Lundquist; and in-laws, Marcella (Sam) Downie, Marvin (Milly) Yess, Robert Yess, Norma (Loren) Abraham and Orville Yess. He is survived by his brother, Olof (Jean) Lundquist; in-laws, Pinky (Val) Yess and Thelma Yess; his daughters, Beth (Darwin) Jorgenson, Belle Plaine, and Jana (Jeff) Johnson, New Ulm; his grandchildren, Daniel (Miaja) Jorgenson, Lindsey (Steve) Dault, Katie (Andrew) Vechart and Jordan Johnson; and his great grandchildren, Makenzi, Aiden, Isaiah, Levi, Ian, Annie, Lauren and Case.
