Herbert Fritz Guse, age 93 of Janesville, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Lakeshore Rehabilitation Center in Waseca, Minnesota.

Herbert was born January 22, 1932 in Iosco Township, Waseca County, Minnesota to Fritz and Hattie (Gahler) Guse. Herbert was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Janesville. Herbert graduated from Janesville High School in 1949.

Herbert served in the United States Army from May 1953 to May 1955. He was stationed in Germany where his duty assignment was Cryptographic Operator.

Herbert was united in marriage to Mavis Wilking on April 8, 1956 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, North Mankato. They enjoyed 68 years of love and marriage until Mavis passed on October 26, 2024.

On March 1, 1958, Herbert and Mavis (and daughter, Debra) moved to their farm near Janesville. Herbert and Mavis worked together milking cows, baling hay, planting and harvesting crops. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and family gatherings. Herbert was active in church and community. He served on many boards and committees. Even though his health did not allow him to live on the farm the last couple of years, he looked forward to his frequent farm visits. He cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Herbert is survived by daughters, Debra (Denny) Rossiter, Sharon (Steve) Krassin, Janine (Tom) Schubert; son, Kevin Guse; grandchildren, Craig (Melissa) Rossiter, Ryan Rossiter, Jared (Genevieve) Krassin, Jenna (Austin) Hansen, Britta (Kyle) Peterson, Brandon (Emily) Schubert, Mattea Schubert (fiancée Kobie Koenig), Lynsey (Brandon) Ploenzke, and Chad Guse; great-grandchildren Harvey Rossiter, Waylon Krassin, Landon and Graham Ploenzke; brothers, Paul Guse, Carl Guse, Marvin (Kathy) Guse; sisters, Lila (Dick) Karrer, Ruby (Dave) Isebrand and Grace Guse; sisters-in-laws, Beverly Guse and Paulette Guse.

Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis; parents; siblings, Ruth Schoenfeld, Clarence Guse, Lyle Guse, Vera Stolt, and Nora Gille

The family would like to thank the staff at Lakeshore Rehabilitation Center for the care and support shown to Herbert.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, Minnesota; Rev. Timothy Contreras will officiate. Herbert’s family will greet guests at a visitation on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Janesville Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at St. John’s Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Janesville following the service; along with Military Honors.
