EDGAR CARL MUMME, age 96 of Waterville, formerly of St. James, passed away at his home in Waterville on the morning of Sunday, September 6, 2026.

Edgar was born in South Branch Township, rural St. James, Minnesota on February 28, 1930, to parents William and Marie (Wentzel) Mumme. He was reborn a child of God in the water of Holy Baptism on March 23, 1930 at St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch. He was confirmed in the Christian Faith on May 21, 1944 at St. John's. He attended grade school at St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from St. James High School in 1948. He served his country honorably in the Army from 1953-1955. Edgar was united in Holy Matrimony to Myrna Beer on August 11, 1963 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bennett, Iowa. They made their home in South Branch where he farmed with his brother and brother-in-law. Edgar enjoyed reading, spending time with his family, and was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Edgar is survived by five children, Mary (Sam) Erdman of Eagan, Mark (Beth) Mumme of Laramie, WY, Paul (Lori) Mumme of Maple Park, IL, David (Glenda) Mumme of Waterville, and Matthew (Michele) Mumme of Waseca; twenty grandchildren, Andrew (Rachel) Erdman of Minnetonka, Breanna Erdman of North Mankato, Jacob Erdman of Kimberly, WI, and Rebecca Erdman of Reedsburg, WI; Melinda (Nathan) Knop of Big Lake, Cora (Anthony) Miller of Savage, Emma (Carson) Lee of Casper, WY, and William (Lillian) Mumme of Laramie, WY; Zachary (fiancée Tara) Mumme of Mankato, Caleb (Kayla) Mumme of Sycamore, IL, Michael Mumme of Maple Park, IL, and Adam Mumme of Maple Park, IL; Hannah (Nicholai) Stuckwisch of St. Peter, Eleonore (John) Wagner of Chaska, Nathan (fiancée Alexis) Mumme of Mankato, Abigail Mumme of Alexandria, and Samuel Mumme of Rosemount; Madalynn (Lindy) Fiebiger of Mankato, Alison Mumme of Waseca, and Emily Mumme of Waseca; nineteen great-grandchildren, Luke; Jonah, Selah, Grace, and Esther; Theodore and Maeve; Tirzah and Felicity; James and Elizabeth; Guinevere, Philippa, Henrietta, Johanna, and David; Klaus and Ezra; and one on the way; a sister, Betty (Martin) Henke of St. James; and a sister-in-law, Betty Mumme of South Branch. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his loving wife; several unborn grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma; and two brothers, Louis and Elroy.

A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at the Waterville Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waterville. One hour of visitation time will also precede the funeral service at the church on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at St. John's Lutheran Church in South Branch Township, rural St. James, with Rev. Matthew Rusert officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
