Douglas Carl Strand

Douglas Carl Strand, age 72, of Waseca, Minnesota passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family.

Born on February 27, 1953, in Waseca, MN he was the son of Donald and Dixie (Schafer) Strand. He was raised in the Waseca area and graduated from Waseca High School. After completing high school, he began a railroad career that spanned 35 years, working with the Chicago & North Western Railway before continuing with the DM&E Railroad. He was a loving and steadfast father, and he embraced his roles as grandpa and great-grandpa with pure joy. The sparkle in his eyes whenever he was with them said more about his love than words ever could. He took great joy in his morning cruise through the countryside, catching up on the day’s happenings. He especially treasured his “Taco Tuesday” chats with his son, and his Friday gatherings with the guys, visiting and tackling whatever projects came their way.

The outdoors was where he felt at home, taking in the peace of nature and the company of his family and friends. Fishing was a favorite pastime; especially the annual trout opener in Houston, Minnesota and he always treasured his time at the cabin on Lake Jefferson. He also enjoyed a lively game of bean bags in the backyard and never passed up a good game of darts.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Nathan C Strand of Brooklyn Park, Adam (Joy) Strand of Duluth, Cory Tangen of Dexter, and Alicia Strand of Waseca; grandchildren, Abigayle, Tessa, Autumn, Adam II, Austin, Hunter, Chase, Hannah, Ciprianna, Devon, Kody, and Steven; great grandchildren, Ana’Laya and Braxton; and his furry companion, Marley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara (Charles) Decker; and brother, Ronald Strand.

Doug’s family will host a Celebration of his life on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the Waseca American Legion. Interment will be at Woodville Cemetery at a later date.
