Dixie Jean Barker

DIXIE JEAN BARKER, age 94 of Waterville died on Monday, July 27, 2026 at Whispering Creek in Janesville.

Born on May 16, 1932 in Norborne, Missouri, she was the daughter of James and Catharine (Isaac) Waters. She graduated from high school in Norborne and married Merle Barker Sr. in 1950. They moved to Waterville where Dixie worked for the Waterville Advance and Lake Region Life. She also worked as bookkeeper for her husband’s construction business. She loved singing and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by one son, Terry (Mary) Barker of Waterville; four grandchildren, KristIn (Bruce) Velzke of Morristown, Amy (Nick) Cram of Elysian, Beau (Sonia) Barker of Mankato, and Lance Barker of Waseca; six great grandchildren, Briley, Alix, and Conner Velzke, Hunter Cram, Owen Barker, and Ella Barker; and two great great grandchildren, Jack and Delilah Barker.

Private graveside services will be held at Sakatah Cemetery in Waterville.
