DALE ARVAN OWEN, age 86, of Farmington, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025. He was born on April 7, 1939, in Mankato, Minnesota, to Lyle and Orvilla (Norris) Owen.
Dale grew up in Pemberton and graduated from Pemberton Public Schools with the class of 1957. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dale excelled in football, track, baseball, and especially basketball. His senior year, the Pemberton Tigers advanced to the Minnesota State Tournament—the smallest school ever to do so in state history. Dale continued his education at Mankato State University, where he studied Business and played basketball. His time on the MSU team was a defining chapter of his life; he competed at a high level, helping his team bring home several conference championships. During those years, Dale built lifelong friendships with teammates, and the experiences on and off the court became stories he cherished and shared often throughout his life.
On August 10, 1963, Dale was united in marriage to Shirley Schultz in Winnebago, Minnesota. They made their home in Worthington before moving to Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, where they raised their three children. Dale and Shirley shared 46 years of marriage before her passing in 2009.
Dale’s career began with Skelly Oil Company and continued through its transitions to Texaco, Getty, and finally Citgo Oil, where he retired in 2003. In retirement, Dale and Shirley enjoyed their home on Diamond Lake near Atwater, Minnesota, creating cherished family memories on the water. After Shirley’s passing, Dale moved to Mankato, where he met Margie Nelson, who brought joy and companionship to his later years.
Dale was deeply involved in his community and passions. He was a proud member of the MSU Alumni Association and served on the JWP Hall of Fame Committee, where he was inducted individually in 2018 and as part of his team in 2017. He loved golfing, attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, and talking about sports—always their biggest fan.
Dale is survived by his children: Darcy (Tony) Maskevich of Shakopee, Christophe “Kip” Owen of Shakopee, and Nicole Owen of Farmington; grandchildren, Cabe and Colton Maskevich; sister, Beverly Engel of Janesville; sisters-in-law: Carol Owen of Marshall, Darlene Owen of Fergus Falls, and Shirley Owen of Mankato; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; and brothers: Donald, twin brother Dean, and David.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on MONDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2025, at the Janesville Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
