Cesilia "Sheila" Ruedas Guerra

CESILIA “SHEILA” RUEDAS GUERRA, age 72 of Waseca, died on the morning of Monday, May 20, 2024, at Hillcrest Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mankato.

Sheila was born in Brownsville, Texas on June 26, 1951, to parents Miguel and Francisca (Gracia) Ruedas.  As a young girl she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Dolores and Jose Vasquez.  She graduated from Hanna High School in Brownsville before continuing her education at Kingsville A&M University.  She was married to Gustavo Guerra in Brownsville on August 16, 1981.  She and Gus and their children moved to Waseca in their mid-40’s in search of a better life for their family.  Sheila worked for Mayo Clinic Health System in Waseca as a billing specialist, and she also offered her expertise as a medical translator.   She was a generous, kind woman who enjoyed reading, shopping, baking cakes and other treats, and playing bingo.   More than anything, though, she loved to spend time with and care for her beloved family.

Sheila is survived by her husband, Gustavo “Gus” Guerra of Waseca; one daughter, Vanessa Guerra of Minneapolis; a granddaughter, Emily Guerra; and three siblings, Lupita Vega, Timo Ruedas, and Mike Ruedas.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents; the aunt and uncle who raised her; and her son, Jose “Joey” Guerra.
