Carol Anne Anthony

July 16, 1945 — January 26, 2024

Waseca, Minnesota

Carol A. Anthony age 78, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2024, at Lakeshore Rehabilitation Center, Waseca, MN.

Born July 16, 1945, in Rolla, North Dakota, she was raised in Floodwood, MN, and spent a great deal of time at Lake Pokegama.  She graduated from Minnesota State University, Moorhead, MN, with an education degree and earned a Master of Arts degree from University of St Thomas.  She spent the first part of her career teaching health and physical education in Wisconsin and Coleraine, MN.  The remaining years were at Waseca Middle/Jr High School where she retired in 2004. She was a long-time member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

On September 2, 1979, Carol married David E. Anthony in Grand Rapids, MN. They resided in Waseca, MN, David’s hometown. Both had a strong faith and were members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They served the Lord by faithfully distributing communion to residents at Lakeshore Inn.  They built a summer cabin together on Lake Pomme de Terre in Ashby, MN and spent their summers enjoying family and friends there.

After David’s death in 2001, Carol continued hosting at the lake; baking, fishing, playing games, and driving the boat for all to enjoy.  She was very industrious and tackled multiple carpentry projects. She had a passion for gardening and was especially proud of her dahlias.  She was wonderful in the kitchen; canning, cooking, and baking her signature treats.

Animals were a large part of Carol’s life, from horses to the dogs and cats she had throughout her life.  Her eleven-year-old dog, Carlie, passed away only a few weeks before Carol.

In her later years, Carol wintered in Texas which was close to her brother, David, and her friends from Lake Pomme de Terre.

Carol was a strong independent woman. When health and other adversities were in her path, she met them full steam ahead. Her faith guided her, and she was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be laid to rest next to David, under the beautiful gravestone she designed when he passed away.  It reads, “In His Will Is Our Peace.”

Not only was Carol devoted to her late husband, David, she was a remarkable stepmom and grandmother to Todd (Sue) Anthony and their daughter, Heather; and Sara (the late Timothy Harris) and their children Rachel (Steven) Grenawalt and Emma (Joshua) Yonker.

Carol was the loving daughter of Warren and Clara Naegeli who preceded her in death.  She was a loving sister and aunt and adored spending time with her brothers and their families: David (the late Sylvia) Naegeli and their sons Warren and Vincent (Priscilla); and the late Wilson (Marcia) Naegeli and their daughters Kristen (Timothy) Engrav and their children Abbigail, Alexander, Asher and the late Matthew; and Jodi (Brady) Coulombe and their children Emma and Katelyn.  Carol’s brother, Newell Naegeli, passed away as an infant.
