BETTY ROSE FLITTER, age 93, of Janesville, died on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Whispering Creek in Janesville.
Born on July 26, 1931, in Waseca, she was the daughter of George and Dorothy (Herrley) Willock. Betty was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her Lutheran faith as a youth. She attended country school and graduated from Waseca Central High School in 1949. On May 1, 1951, Betty was joined in marriage to Ervin Flitter at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. Together, they raised their two daughters, Faith and Brenda, and enjoyed 70 years of marriage before Ervin's passing on October 31, 2021. Betty instilled her strong faith in her daughters and was a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Throughout her life, Betty worked for Birdeye, E.F. Johnson Co., and the elevator in Janesville. She took time off to raise her children and later embarked on a 24-year career with Brown Printing. Known affectionately by Ervin as "The Cook," Betty loved preparing meals for her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching Jeopardy in her spare time.
Betty is survived by her daughters: Faith (Jim) Bowers and Brenda Spitzack, both of Janesville; grandchildren: Jessica (Jim) Sutherland and Robert Bowers; great-grandchildren: Addison and Evan Sutherland. She is also survived by her sisters: Patricia Holcomb of Kingman, AZ, George (Norma) Willock of Auburn, AL, and Polly (Larry) Schake of Madison, MN; sister-in-law, Sandra Flitter of Elysian; brother-in-law, Delfon Flitter of Janesville; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters: Georgeda Wilker and Marie Crandell; brothers-in-law: Orville, Marvin, Ivan, and Kenneth Flitter.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, with Pastor Kristian Bjornstad officiating. Interment will follow at Janesville Cemetery. Visitation will take place for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
