BERTHA D. DYER, age 91 of Waterville, formerly of Elysian, passed away on the afternoon of Monday, October 3, 2022 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waseca.
Born in Redfield, Iowa on June 11, 1931, Bertha was the daughter of Jesse and Trella (Belcher) Bainter. She attended school in Des Moines when she was young. On July 1, 1948, Bertha was united in marriage to Ralph Earl Dyer in Des Moines, Iowa. She operated a daycare for over 35 years and made many lasting friendships with the families she cared for. Also during those years she baked cakes for friends, families, weddings, and special events. She enjoyed crafting of all kinds, baking, and spending time volunteering with her friends in the American Legion Auxiliary. She and Ralph were members of the Assembly of God congregation, and had attended church in Virginia, Hopkins, Elysian, and other communities. When Bertha was unable to attend church in person, she and Rev. Merwin Miller began hosting bible studies in her home.
Bertha is survived by her husband Ralph of Waterville; one daughter, Margaret Mooers of Aitkin; two grandchildren, Cara (Scott) Shaver of Aitkin and Jesse (Lisa Mehsikomer) Hellerud of Minnetonka; three great-grandchildren, Jessica (Gavin) Newton, Meg Hellerud, and Annika Hellerud; one brother-in-law, Earl Douglas; and special friends Sharon and Grump Greenwald of Elysian and Ted and Jeannie Zwart of Elysian. She was preceded in death by her parents; and all of her siblings.
