Arlis Evelyn Wallace

April 24, 1929 — June 10, 2020

ARLIS EVELYN WALLACE, age 91, of Waseca, formerly of Waterville, died peacefully on June 10, 2020 at Lake Shore Inn in Waseca.

Born on April 24, 1929, in Winnebago to Ben and Vera (Coale) Kantack. Arlis attended Mapleton High School. Arlis was united in marriage to Curtiss Wallace on March 22, 1947 in Mapleton. Together they shared 57 year of marriage before Curtiss passed away in 2004.

Arlis had a long varied career! She enjoyed her school days in Mapleton, especially math. After meeting Curtiss, she worked on multiplication! Linda, Larry, Ronny and Joanne were the result. It was at the time she met Curtiss that she started Scottish Highland dancing and it was her uncle who taught her.

Between children, she worked various jobs including sexing chickens, food processing and working on the line at E.F. Johnson company in Waseca. In 1967, they went into the restaurant business in Waldorf where they owned and operated Wally’s Café until moving to Waterville in 1979 where two of her siblings, Ilo and Edgar lived. In 1985, they went back into the restaurant business, this time in Waterville at Wallace’s Family Inn! Food service was in her blood, also working with Meals on Wheels and at Phil-Mart’s Food Court. It was in Waterville that she had the time to garden and it became quite a passion. They kept that corner lot up beautifully! Arlis spent many enjoyable hours with her friends tending the hanging flower baskets that lined the streets downtown as a part of the Horizon’s Group. Arlis and Curtiss became active in the Waterville Evangelical United Methodist Church where they found great comfort. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her last home was in Waseca at Lake Shore Inn where she was given exceptional care.

Arlis is survived by her children: Larry (Annette) Wallace of Mankato, Ron (Gary Thomas) Wallace of Rohnert Park, CA, Joanne (George) Klug of New Richland; son-in-law: Bill Kuhns; seven grandchildren: Steve (Beth) Kuhns, Kathryn (Marcus) Weyhrauch, Kurt (Alicia) Wallace, Vicki (Glenn Zimel) Ramler, Angela (Garrett) Melchior, Elizabeth (Richard Green) Morris, Peter Klug, Katelyn Klug; grandson-in-law: John (Josie) Rasmussen; eight great grandchildren; brother: Howard (Sandy) Kantack of Bemidji; brother-in-law: Neal (Evelyn) Wallace of Vernon Center; sister-in-law, Louise Kantack of Lakeville; special niece, Carmen (Gene) Dalluge of Good Thunder; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Maywin “Ilo” Rafferty; brother, Edgar Kantack; daughter: Linda Kuhns; and granddaughter: Kari (Klug) Rasmussen.
