SHIRLEY L. AHLFORS, age 89 of Waseca died on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Oak Terrace in North Mankato.
Born on November 11, 1928 in Embarrass, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Michael and Katherine (Rintala) Heroja.  She graduated from Embarrass High School in 1946 and went on to attend Eveleth Junior College.   Shirley married Richard Ahlfors on August 6, 1949.  They lived on the Ahlfors family farm for a short time until selling the farm and moving to the Twin Cities.  While there, Shirley worked at Prudential Insurance for nine years.  They moved to Waseca in 1961 where she worked at the Waseca Journal and for many years at Maple Terrace.   Shirley enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cross stitch, needle point, painting, reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and playing bridge on the computer.   She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca.
She is survived by two daughters, Sally (Russ) Martin of Hager City, WI and Wendy (Daniel) Biggar of Burnsville; six grandchildren, Alaina (Ryan) Salzman, Whitney (Alex) Windschitl, Zach (Katie) Biggar, Ana (Ben) Pearson, Laura Martin, and Elise Martin; and one great-grandchild, Vanek Salzman.   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and her sister, Harriet Jones.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 3-6 PM and continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Waseca.  Burial will follow at Woodville Cemetery in Waseca.
