Matthew Hines May 1, 1984 - May 29, 2010

Matthew J. Hines, age 26 of rural Waseca, died on Saturday, May 29, 2010 as a result of injuries sustained in an all terrain vehicle accident. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at LeSueur River Lutheran Church in rural New Richland with Rev. Cary Larson, Officiate. Interment will be in the LeSueur River Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at McRaith Funeral Home in Waseca, and will continue on Thursday morning for one hour prior to services, at church. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Matthew Jerome was born on May 1, 1984 in Waseca, Minnesota to Roger Jerome and Ruth Ann (Brandvold) Hines. Matt was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Waseca, and confirmed at LeSueur River Lutheran Church, rural New Richland. He attended Waseca public schools where he participated in choir, FFA, and was Homecoming King. Matt served as president of his class and graduated with honors in 2003. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. During his college years Matt was employed seasonally for the Waseca School Dist., providing lawn care. After college he was employed for a short time with Watonwan Farm Service in New Richland, and also helped out many of the area dairy farmers. Most recently Matt was employed with Cargill Inc., of New Richland. He was a member of the LeSueur River Lutheran Church. Matt had taught Sunday school and currently served on the church council. His faith was an important part of his life. Matt was a very active member of the Vista Busy Bees 4-H Club. He showed chickens at the county and state fair, and received many 4-H awards. Matt continued to volunteer in the program and helped out with judging at the Waseca County Fair. He was a Waseca FFA Alumni. Matt loved farming, raising livestock and was happiest when driving a tractor. He had a smile for everyone and a great sense of humor. A beloved son, a hero to his sister, and a friend to many; he will be in our hearts forever! He is survived by his parents, Roger and Ruth (Brandvold) Hines and his sister Jenna Hines, all of rural Waseca; by his paternal grandmother Diddie Hines of Little Falls, and his maternal grandmother Twyla (Marlyn) Heikes of Lexington, TN; by many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Ray Hines, and his maternal grandparents Lloyd and Ethel Brandvold. Casketbearers are: Bill Root, John Bethke, Cody
