Marlin Gehring
MARLIN GEHRING, age 89 of Waseca passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Waseca.  He had a full and happy life.
Born on May 30, 1928 in Waseca, Minnesota, he was the 5th of 13 children born to Arthur and Emilie (Bahr) Gehring.   He graduated from New Richland High School in 1947.  He started work at the Southern Experiment Station that same year.   On December 4, 1950, he was drafted into the US Army.  He completed basic training at Fort Riley and joined the airborne division.  He made 13 successful jumps from airplanes.  On one of his lift moves from the chair to his bed at the Waseca Hospital, he declared another PLF.  When questioned, he stated that was a Parachute Landing Fall.   After his discharge, he returned to the Experiment Station for the next 24 years and then worked for MN Crop Improvement until 1993 when he retired.   He was a long time member of the Bluejay Booster Club and Sportsmans Club.  He was a fan of every Bluejay team that ever took the field, court or mat.    Marly loved to hunt and work on small engines.  He was a Master Gardener with a love for fresh tomatoes.
On February 4, 1954, he married Beverly Helms.  They had 3 daughters and a son, all who will miss him dearly, rivaled only by his 8 grandchildren and 8 (and one on the way) great grandchildren.  He was Gump to all of them.
He is survived by four children, Nancy (Kent) Huntington, Julie (Ed) Jesse, Vicki (Doug) Miller, and Gary (Cheryl) Gehring; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.   He is also survived by brothers, Ronald, Gerald, and Kenneth; sisters, Velma Lohman and Norma Stone; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; brothers, Emery, Orville, Virgil, and Lyle; sisters, Luverne Krueger, Edna Korman, and Shirley Thiessen.
Visitation will be held at Dennis Funeral & Cremation Services in Waseca on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 4-6 PM and continue on Monday, one hour before services at the church.
