Lawrence Bernard Kahnke, age 91, of Janesville, MN passed away unexpectantly on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems Hospital in Mankato. He was surrounded in love by his family.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville with Father Michael Cronin officiating. Interment will be held at St. Ann Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Arnoldt- McRaith Funeral Home & Crematory in Janesville and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials are preferred to St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville.

Lawrence, son of Sebastian and Regina (Schmidt) Kahnke, was born on November 3, 1923 in Alton Township, Waseca County. He attended rural school and graduated from Janesville High School in 1941. He spent a year and a half in service to his country with the United States Army helping to stabilize the government of Korea post WWII. He was a lifelong member of St. Ann Catholic Church and was an active member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the American Legion. Lawrence was united in marriage to Aurelia Yainske on August 21, 1954 in Wells, MN. He farmed in the Janesville area for most of his life before retiring in 1988. Lawrence was a patient, gentle, and caring man and was a role model to his children and grandchildren. He was a lover of the land, animals, his family, and his Lord.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Aurelia Kahnke of Janesville; children, John (Cammy) Kahnke of Janesville, Dave Kahnke of Janesville, Jeanie Kahnke (friend, Don Norman) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Deb (Bruce) Haar of Bloomington; grandchildren, Marie (Patrick) Hicks of Minneapolis, Matthew (Karen) Kahnke of Janesville, Susanna Kahnke of Janesville, and Grace Kahnke of Janesville; his brothers, Alvin Kahnke of

Mankato and Eugene (Mary) Kahnke of West St. Paul; sisters-in-law, Alice Yainske of Mankato, and Lillian (Richard) Bush of Stewartville, MN; and by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by brothers and sisters-in-law, Margaret Kahnke, Leonard and Esther Regenscheid, Ray Yainske, Phil Yainske, Maxine and Tom Kuechenmeister, and Marvin Yainske.
