LARRY GEORGE FISCHER, age 77, of Waseca, died on Monday, May 30, 2022, at his home.
Born on April 21, 1945, in Manning, Iowa to George and Hilda (Hansen) Fischer. Larry grew up as a small-town Iowa boy. He spent his childhood summers on Aunt Lilly and Uncle Alfred’s farm which shaped so much of what he became. Larry attended Manning Public School, graduating with the class of 1963. He continued his education at Iowa State University where he studied Industrial Engineering. On May 28, 1967, Larry was united in marriage to Marian Buhr in Ames, Iowa.
Larry loved the rural life which prompted him to purchase an old farm site outside of Waseca, where he spent 52 years raising his family, and hosting extended family gatherings. He was an eternal optimist who loved salvaging and restoring. He could fix almost anything. Amateur radio was one of his lifelong hobbies, having become licensed at the age of 12. He was always putting up and taking down multiple antennas. His love of radio inspired his entire career. He was proud of his multiple patents which helped shape the telecommunications industry.
Music was always a part of his life. He enjoyed playing piano, organ, and singing, and he especially enjoyed country gospel music. Larry was also a licensed private pilot and would hang out with his friends at the local airport. His love of the natural world was shared with his family. Larry enjoyed working with his wife to take care of their multiple gardens and was especially fond of his vegetable garden. He was a faithful member of North Waseca Lutheran Church. Larry was very loving to his family and would do anything for them. His tender loving care will be greatly missed.
Larry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marian; son, Andrew and Elizabeth (Kash) Fischer and their children: Sebastian and Vincent of Hopkins; son, Alan and Ashleigh (Billotte) Fischer and their children: Ailis, Ardan, and Augustus of Spearfish, South Dakota; brother, Douglas Fischer of Scottsdale, AZ. Preceded in death by his parents.
Private family service will be held with burial in North Waseca Lutheran Cemetery.
A Public Celebration of Life will be announced on a later date.
