Irene V. Sterling, age 91 of Faribault, died Friday, December 28, 2012 at The Traditions II of Owatonna, MN following an extended illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 139 Mercy Drive, in Faribault, MN. Interment will be held at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Faribault.

Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday for one hour prior to services.

Irene Vivian St. Martin, the daughter of Albert and Anna (VanLear) St. Martin, was born on December 23, 1921 in Faribault. She attended Faribault High School and graduated with the class of 1939. On October 27, 1941 she was united in marriage to Harlo Sterling at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. Mr. Sterling preceded her in death on Nov. 7, 1990. Irene worked at different times for Wilson''s Packaging Plant over her life, but she mainly stayed at home to raise their family. She loved being with all of her family and it was usually during those times that they played some very competitive card games. She was an avid reader and enjoyed all types of flowers. Traveling to California and Las Vegas with her family was always a great time and an enjoyable trip.

She is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Marcia) Sterling and Bruce (Linda) Sterling, both of Faribault; by five grandchildren, Scott Sterling, Todd (Laura) Sterling, Leslie Sterling, Brent (Kari) Sterling and Anne (Bren) Archambault; by 11 great grandchildren; by her sister-in-law, Doris St. Martin of Faribault and by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson, Gary Sterling in infancy, great granddaughter, Abby Sterling, two sisters, Doris "Midge" Vogen and Delores "Sis" Sweeney and by three brothers, Bernard, Donald "Tuffy" and Clifford St. Martin.
