Helen I. Sammon, age 90, of Faribault, died Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Faribault. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, at Immaculate Conception, in Faribault with the Rev. Kevin Finnegan, officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Faribault. Visitation will be held at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to services. Helen Irene Stav, the daughter of Martin and Etta (Crump) Stav, was born on April 17, 1918 in Bismarck, ND. She attended Faribault High School and graduated with the class of 1937. On October 28, 1942 she was united in marriage to Francis Sammon at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Faribault. Helen worked for over 20 years at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind as an educational assistant and as a house parent. She retired in 1982. Helen was involved with many organizations in Faribault including the Auxiliaries of the Knights of Columbus Council 889, VFW Post 1562 and Faribault Aerie 1460 Fraternal Order of Eagles. Helen also volunteered at the District One Hospital and delivered Meals on Wheels, at the Faribault Senior Center and at the Clothes Closet. Helen enjoyed spending time with all of her family and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She is survived by her husband, Francis Sammon of Faribault; by four children, Patrick (Marion) Sammon, Michael "Mick" (Katie) Sammon and Becky Sammon, all of Faribault and Peter (Jeana) Sammon of Apple Valley, MN; by 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; by her sister Margaret "Peg" Stav of Detroit, MI and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter, Emma Claire Sammon, by three brothers, Paul, Carl and Raymond Stav and by two sisters, Rebecca Schacht and Delpha Heil.
