Genevieve "Gen" Theresa Mulcahey was born on Thanksgiving morning, November 26, 1925, to William and Ruby (Bates) Mahon on the Mahon Family Farm in rural Iona, Minnesota. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her Catholic faith as a youth all at St. Columba Catholic Church in Iona. Gen graduated from Fulda High School with the class of 1944. Following her graduation, she moved to Mankato with her friend, Lil. It wasnt long before these two Iona girls had met and won the hearts of the Mulcahey boys. Gen was united in marriage to Gerald John Mulcahey at St. Columba Catholic Church in Iona, Minnesota on November 4, 1946, and Lil married Bob Mulcahey seven months later. Gerald and Gen lived briefly in Chicago, Illinois and New Richland, before making their home in Janesville. In 1975, Gerald suffered a debilitating brain aneurysm and was forced to live the remainder of his life in a nursing home. For the next 23 years, Gen demonstrated what unconditional love looks like. She stuck by his side while she diligently cared for their young children. They shared 52 years of marriage before Gerald died on October 3, 1998.

Gen was a faithful member of St. Ann Catholic Church where she was involved in various groups throughout her life. She was a member of the Waseca County Extension Club and bowled in the Womens League at the Janesville Bowl. Gen spent much of her free time volunteering at St. Anns and at the Janesville Nursing Home. She would never pass up an opportunity to play BINGO, or go to the casino to play nickel machines. Gen is fondly remembered by her family for her easy going demeanor, her love of babies, her amazing homemade buns and cinnamon rolls and above all, her devotion to her faith and her family. She grounded herself by attending daily Mass and cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Gens family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Janesville Nursing Home for the outstanding care their mom received over the past 5 years.

Blessed be her memory.

Gen is survived by her six children: Rosann (David Sr.) Malenfant of Bonita Springs, FL, Kathleen (Mark) Langer of Farmington, Becky (Kevin) Monahan of Janesville, Doreen (Mark) Oelke of St. Peter, Dennis Mulcahey of Janesville, and Shannon Burg (Fianc Todd OKeefe) of Le Center; 19 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; brother-in-law, Pat Mulcahey of Macomb, MI; sisters-in-law: Marie Maxwell of Rochester, Sr. Germane Mulcahey SSND of Mankato and Ardis Mahon of Granite Falls; special family friend: Jane Flemming of Smiths Mill; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
