Eugene "Gene" August Miller

EUGENE “GENE” AUGUST MILLER, age 84 of rural Janesville, died at his home on Thursday, October 21, 2021.

Born in rural Janesville, on June 23, 1937, Gene was the son of Frank and Margaret (Storjohann) Miller. He was baptized by Pastor Otto Krause at Trinity Lutheran in Janesville on July 18, 1937 and was later confirmed on April 2, 1950 by Pastor M.H. Eibs at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Smith’s Mill. He attended District 73 country school before graduating from Janesville High School with the class of 1955. He served in the Army Reserves from 1960 until 1966. On October 2, 1965, he was united in marriage to Sharon Ann Berndt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Smith’s Mill. From 1966 until 1978 Gene worked at the Janesville Creamery. In 1976 he began farming on the Ziemke family farm, and he continued that work that he loved so much until his recent retirement. Gene was a lifelong resident of the Janesville area where he enjoyed being actively involved with Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as Treasurer and Financial Secretary for many years. He was a man that could fix anything, and he enjoyed being a farmer.

Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sharon Miller of Janesville; two sons, Brian (Cathy) Miller of Estherville, IA, and Ben (Christine) Miller of Soldiers Grove, WI; two grandchildren, Alex Miller of Estherville, IA, and Amanda (Cole) Frock of Poncha Springs, CO; and one sister, Cleo Jacobson of Bethesda, MD. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; one sister, Marian Kirby; and one brother, Lyle Miller.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran in Smith’s Mill, with Pastor Keith Bilitz officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Interment will follow at Smith’s Mill Cemetery.
