Donald Gene Witt

DONALD GENE WITT, age 91 of Janesville, passed away on the evening of December 25, 2022 at Whispering Creek in Janesville.

Donald was born on his family’s farm on December 3, 1931, to Victor and Irene (Ewert) Witt. He attended country school before beginning to work as a young man. On June 5, 1952, Donald was married to Shirley Ann Linde at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. He served his country in the United States Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. Over his working years, Donald hauled milk, ground feed, and hauled gas. His most recent and lengthy employment, though, was working for Waseca County until his retirement. He enjoyed playing slots at Diamond Jo’s, hunting, playing cards, shooting dice, following the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Lynx, working around his yard, and his annual Christmas light displays. More than anything, though, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a long-time member of the Janesville American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville.

Donald is survived by five children, Debra Smith (Dennis Peterson) of Janesville, Terri (Mike) Wolff of Eagle Lake, James (Debbie) Witt of Janesville, Lori (Duane) Page of Janesville, and Cherrie (Rich) Johnson of Janesville; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene Witt of Waseca and Beverly “Annie” Recknor of Wells; a sister-in-law, Norma Witt of Janesville; and a son-in-law, Bill Straube of Waseca. Donald was preceded in death by both of his parents; his wife; one daughter, Diane Straube; and two brothers, Orville Witt and Elvin Witt.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, with Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of the service at the church. Interment will follow at the Janesville Cemetery.
