David Anthony Adams

David A. Adams (79) of Janesville passed away peacefully at his home and surrounded by family on January 7, 2021.

David was born July 9, 1941 to Margaret (Denn) and Leon Adams in Blue Earth County. David attended school in Mapleton and in Minnesota Lake before moving to Janesville in 1955. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1959. After high school, David was drafted into the Vietnam war, during which he served honorably in the US Army for 3 years. In 1966, David was discharged from the military and he returned home to Janesville to farm with his brothers, Pete and Everett. David wed Shelby Jean Mullerleile on July 28, 1978 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Janesville and became a beloved husband and stepfather to Shelby’s 5 children. David and Shelby lived in Janesville for many years, until building their dream retirement home at Two Bear Lake, Wisconsin. Later, they began to enjoy the winter months in Inverness, Florida. David was a devoted husband to Shelby for 42 years, taking care of her throughout her struggle with dementia. David was active in St. Ann’s Parish, the over 50 Reunion club, the VFW and American Legion Post 281, from which he just recently retired as Commander. He will forever be remembered for baking and delivering endless gingersnap cookies and zucchini bread to his friends and family.

David is survived by stepchildren: Christopher (Betty) Schmidt of St. Clair, Connie Brady (Mike David) of Madison Lake and Mike (Beth) Schmidt of Great Falls, MT; step-grandchildren Janel Schmidt (Mike Muntean), Kevin Schmidt (Rhoda Klein), Brent Brady, Marissa (Mike) Ewert, Kristin (Travis) Gunsolus, Brandon (Renee) Brady, Blaine Schmidt and Madeline Schmidt; step great-grandchildren Gabe, Colton and Hayley Muntean (Janel Schmidt), Sylvi Parker (Marissa Ewert), and Colin and Lucas Gunsolus (Kristin Gunsolus); Siblings Dianne Galler of Janesville, Judy (Dick) Anderson of Stillwater; Richard (Luane) Adams of Janesville, John (Janet) Adams of Mankato, Peter (Sue) Adams of Janesville, Paul (Vicky) Adams of Waseca, Kathy (Dan) Danielson of Arizona; Sister in law Judy Adams; Brother in Law Bruce Mullerleilie, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death his wife, Shelby J. Adams; parents, Leon and Margaret Adams; stepsons, Robert A. Schmidt and Mark Schmidt; and brothers, Dean (Ritva) Adams, Jerry (Karleene) Adams, Robert Adams and Everett Adams; brother-in-law, Gordy Galler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Janesville. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston.
