Bonnie Mae Stangler

October 18, 1925 — March 1, 2023

BONNIE MAE STANGLER, age 97 of Waterville passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Benedictine Living Community in St. Peter.


Born on October 18, 1925 in Mankato, Minnesota she was the daughter of Albert and Delma (Biehn) Schuenemann. She graduated from Janesville High School with the class of 1943. Bonnie was united in marriage to Clayton Stangler on January 17, 1946 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Elysian. Together they raised two daughters, Kathryn Ann (Walz) and Patricia Kay (Mariska).


Bonnie worked as an Avon and Sasco representative, at Munsingwear in Montgomery and retired from E.F. Johnson Co. in Waseca.


She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville, the Women’s Guild at Holy Trinity, was a Girl Scout Leader, and a member of the Fatima Prayer Group. Bonnie enjoyed dancing, reading, and working in her many flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed decorating the church altar with fresh flowers from her garden until her health prevented her from doing so. Bonnie most importantly treasured her faith and spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.


She is survived by two daughters, Kathryn (William) Walz of Waterville and Patricia (Thomas) Mariska of Waterville; four grandchildren, Lori (Brian) Rothmeyer, Christopher (Jennifer) Walz, Brian Mariska, and Bradley Mariska; five great grandchildren, Kyle and Kathryn Rothmeyer and Megan, Claire, and Paige Walz; sister-in-law, Dorothy Riebel and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three brothers, Donald (Emmy), Dale (Melva) and Gordon (Sara) Schuenemann.


Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Waterville with Fr. John Powers officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church. A private burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Waterville.


In lieu of flowers, Bonnie requests prayers. Per Bonnie’s wishes, there will be no luncheon or gathering following the service.
