Alice Marie Edler

February 3, 1932 — August 4, 2021

ALICE MARIE EDLER, age 89 of Waseca died on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Foxdale in Waseca.

Born on February 3, 1932 at home in St. Mary Township, Waseca County, she was the daughter of Henry and Louise (Behrns) Edler. Alice was baptized on April 17, 1932 and confirmed on March 25, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville. She attended rural Waseca County School District #62 before graduating from Janesville High School in 1949. Alice worked at the E.F. Johnson Co. for over 30 years, many of those as a lead worker for CB radio assembly.

She enjoyed doing many different things over her lifetime. These included crocheting (many doilies and potholders), sewing, and embroidery (dish towels, tablecloths, and pillowcases). She also enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables. She especially enjoyed growing tomatoes – LOTS of tomatoes and the canning that went with that. She took a lot of pride in always keeping her lawn in tip-top condition, and it always took her several days to get all the mowing done because she had a very large lawn. She used both a walk-behind and a rider, well into her 80s. She used her snowblower for about as long also, always insisting she could handle it and didn’t need any help. It demonstrated her fierce independence and her gritty attitude about taking care of her own chores. It was a pretty amazing thing for her age that she was still doing these things on her own.

Alice liked to read all kinds of things, but especially cookbooks. She liked to bake. She especially excelled at baking awesome bars and cookies of all kinds that she then loved sharing with her family. She enjoyed watching the birds and seeing them eat from their feeders. She could name them all. Her favorite bird was the Chickadee, the perfect bird, they could do no wrong in her book. Her least favorite was the Nuthatch. She just didn’t like their coloring, said it looked like they had “dirty pants” which was pretty funny to hear her always say. Alice was a very good bowler and bowled with good friends on various bowling teams for many years, winning lots of trophies. Another thing that she took immense pride in was always keeping her car shiny clean and waxed. And she did that on her own also, she wasn’t going to go to any carwash place because she knew she could do it better herself! Last but not least, she was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Janesville, always going to Saturday night services and always sitting in the same pew.

She is survived by two nieces, Karen Miner of St. Paul and Sue Schroeder of Waseca and two nephews, Arlan Krassin of Waseca and Bill Schroeder of Illinois; and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Edwin Edler in infancy and Alvin Edler; and sister, Viola Krassin.
